1. What’s special about Chi Pu’s La Ganh Pho restaurant?

Chi Pu’s La Ganh Pho was her passion project after gaining popularity in China. She wanted to introduce Chinese diners to pho, a quintessential dish that represents the soul of Vietnamese cuisine. The name La Ganh comes from the traditional image of the “carrying pole” often seen on the streets of Vietnam. Additionally, the restaurant’s Chinese name, “Can Can,” refers to bamboo, a symbolically significant plant in Vietnamese culture.

The first branch of La Ganh Pho opened in Jing’an District, Shanghai in September 2023. After five months of operation, it was warmly received by Chinese fans and tourists, paving the way for Chi Pu to launch a second location, also in the vibrant city of Shanghai.

Currently, La Ganh Pho serves two main pho options: beef pho and chicken pho. The restaurant also offers two beverages: lotus tea and coffee.

Chi Pu explained that the name La Ganh refers to the iconic “carrying pole” commonly seen on Vietnamese streets.

According to Chi Pu, the flavor of La Ganh Pho has been developed with a recipe that preserves the spirit and signature taste of Vietnamese pho while adapting to the local palate. Each pho set includes a bowl of pho, a cup of egg broth, and a side of crispy quẩy (Chinese dough sticks). Drinks such as lotus tea or coffee can be ordered separately.

The price for a pho set ranges from 59 yuan (about 200,000 VND) for one person, to 139 yuan (about 470,000 VND) for a combo serving two.

Many diners have commented that the pho broth at La Ganh is flavorful, simmered carefully with beef bones and offering a unique taste. As for the egg broth served on the side, many have recommended enjoying it before diving into the pho for the best flavor experience.

Both of Chi Pu’s pho restaurants are relatively small, with only 10–13 seats, and usually get crowded from noon onward. La Ganh Pho operates daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM (China time).
