Vietjet was named “Asia Low Cost/Hybrid Airline of the Year” at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Asia 2026, held in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan. The award recognizes the airline’s progress in developing its strategy and innovating its business model.
With its hybrid aviation development strategy, Vietjet offers a wider choice of fares, amenities, and services while investing in its fleet and technology. Passengers can choose a flexible travel experience suited to their budget and the purpose of each trip.
1. Vietjet receives CAPA’s hybrid airline award
On October 1, 2026, Vietjet was honored by CAPA – Centre for Aviation with the “Asia Low Cost/Hybrid Airline of the Year” award.
CAPA is an international aviation research and analysis organization that provides market intelligence and industry assessments. Its Aviation Awards for Excellence recognize companies and leaders for outstanding achievements in strategy, innovation, and contributions to the development of the aviation industry.
Ho Ngoc Yen Phuong, Vice Chairwoman of the Board and CFO of Vietjet Group, represented the airline in accepting the award at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Asia 2026 in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan.

2. Vietjet – a hybrid airline with a wide range of service options
Hybrid aviation combines features of the low-cost model with service elements of traditional airlines. For passengers, this model means being able to choose the cost level and benefits that best suit each journey.
At Vietjet, the Eco, Deluxe, SkyBoss, and Business fare classes cater to different travel needs. Passengers can choose a basic fare and add the services they need, or select a fare class that includes benefits subject to applicable terms and conditions. However, multiple fare classes are only one part of the hybrid model. The way the airline organizes its network, services, and product policies also helps shape this approach.

3. Highlights of Vietjet’s hybrid aviation strategy
3.1 Growing the fleet and diversifying the travel experience
The Airbus A330 wide-body fleet is one of the elements Vietjet has incorporated into its hybrid strategy. Alongside fleet expansion, the airline is diversifying its products to serve leisure, visiting friends and relatives, and business travel needs.
On board, passengers have more service options and a menu that combines Vietnamese dishes with international cuisine. Developing its fleet and service offerings in tandem helps the airline serve a wider range of customers across its expanding network.
3.2 In-flight internet connectivity adds convenience for customers
In September 2026, Vietjet, together with Galaxy Holdings and Galaxy Telecom, signed a cooperation agreement with Starlink, the satellite internet service developed and operated by SpaceX, to provide passengers with free, high-speed Wi-Fi on the airline’s flights.
With high speeds, low latency, and coverage over oceans, Starlink will give passengers more ways to make the most of their time in the air. Business travelers can check email and stay on top of work, while holidaymakers can enjoy online entertainment and keep in touch with family and friends throughout their journey.
Under the plan, Starlink will be installed on 120 aircraft in the initial phase, then expanded to Vietjet aircraft received in the future, with the goal of covering the entire domestic and international network. This is a step toward making internet connectivity an accessible amenity and enhancing the passenger experience as part of Vietjet’s hybrid aviation model.
3.3 Investing in maintenance capabilities and the aviation ecosystem
Alongside passenger services, Vietjet is investing in an aircraft maintenance facility at Long Thanh and exploring the potential to develop engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul services in Vietnam.
The airline is also expanding its partnerships in technology, artificial intelligence, data, and cybersecurity. These initiatives aim to strengthen its autonomy in technical capabilities and operational resources.
As part of its long-term strategy, Vietjet continues to develop training, maintenance, ground services, and technology alongside its international network. The CAPA award marks recognition of the airline’s efforts to innovate its business model and expand its service capabilities.
