As of August 2, 2023, all airports in Vietnam have accepted passengers on domestic flights using the VNeID application to replace personal documents when performing aviation procedures. This includes flight procedures (check-in), security screening, and boarding procedures.

Also, based on the guidance of the Ministry of Public Security and the direction of the Ministry of Transport in Document No. 3823/BGTVT-TTCNTT dated April 17, 2023, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam issued Document No. 2188 on May 2, 2023, regarding the use of information and documents integrated into the VNeID application. Accordingly, citizens and passengers only need to have an electronic identity verification account at level 2, and the VNeID application can completely replace other personal documents to use domestic flight services.

This means that, in addition to personal documents such as the Citizen Identity Card, driver's license, and personal identification... for flight procedures, domestic air passengers can use personal document information integrated into the VNeID application to verify their identity during the procedure.

Special note: Electronic identity verification accounts must be at level 2 to be able to perform this. Those who are using electronic identity verification accounts at level 1 will not be able to use the VNeID application to replace the Citizen Identity Card when processing procedures at the airport.

2. Simple Instructions for Using VNeID for Air Travel

To complete the procedures when flying with VNeID, you proceed as follows:

Step 1: When you already have an electronic identity verification account at level 2 with VNeID, log in and click on the "Personal" section to activate the QR code application.

Step 2: On the "Home" page, you generate a QR code for electronic identity verification. Note that the QR code is only valid for 1 minute. If it exceeds 1 minute, you need to generate a new code to use.

Step 3: Airport personnel log in to the level 2 electronic identity verification account. Then, they scan the QR code of the citizen in step 1 for the VNeID system to identify whether the user's information is genuine or fake. The results of this identification process will be displayed on the screen.

Step 4: After successful verification, you click on the "Wallet and Documents" section to present the integrated data and documents and submit them to the officers for processing.

3. Some Notes When Flying with VNeID

When flying with a VNeID account, please remember the following important notes to complete procedures quickly:

Passengers should log in to the VNeID application before arriving for the procedure to avoid wasting time due to network issues or forgetting account passwords.
Passengers should carry their original personal documents for use if necessary.
Passengers should check the expiration date of the electronic citizen identity card on the VNeID application.
If traveling with children, passengers should carry birth certificates to complete flight procedures.

Passengers should log in to VNeID in advance when it's their turn for procedures to avoid wasting time.
