The outdoor exhibition at the Vietnam Military History Museum is one of the highlights, offering a dynamic experience of Vietnam’s military history through large-scale real artifacts. With spacious and open designs, this area authentically showcases legendary military equipment linked to Vietnam's heroic resistance wars.

MiG-21 Aircraft

The Hanoi Military Museum displays many national treasures, including the MiG-21 aircraft that shot down enemy planes multiple times.

  • MiG-21 Aircraft, Serial No. 5121 (National Treasure): A legendary fighter jet that shot down an American B52 during the 1972 Operation Rolling Thunder. It symbolizes the power of Vietnam's air force and attracts attention with its powerful design and historical story.
  • T-54B Tank, Serial No. 843 (National Treasure): This historical vehicle crashed through the gates of the Presidential Palace on April 30, 1975, marking the victory of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign. Visitors can closely observe the details of the tank, from the turret to its thick armor.
  • Su-22, A37, MiG-17 Aircraft: Fighter jets that participated in many major campaigns, preserved in excellent condition to help visitors better understand military aviation technology during the resistance war.
  • Weapons from French and American Armies: Including the A37, F5E, C130 aircraft, and especially the M-107 self-propelled artillery, known as the "King of the Battlefield," showcasing military trophies captured by the Vietnamese army during the resistance wars.

The artifacts are displayed in battle-context settings, with detailed explanatory plaques about their origins and historical roles. Visitors will feel as if they are stepping into a "living outdoor museum," where each artifact tells its own unique story.

3.2 Indoor Exhibition Space

The indoor exhibition of the Vietnam Military History Museum preserves and presents the flow of Vietnam’s military history through thousands of valuable artifacts, documents, and modern technology. With scientifically designed spaces, this area offers a profound experience that helps visitors understand the glorious historical periods of the Vietnamese people:

  • The Founding and Defense of the Nation: Displays artifacts and materials from early military civilization, such as Đông Sơn bronze drums and copper weapons.
  • Independence Protection Period (939 - 1858): Depicts the nation’s steadfast struggle to protect its territorial integrity over hundreds of years.
  • Resistance Against French Colonialism and Gaining National Independence (1858 - 1945): Recreates patriotic movements and resistance against French colonialism, including documents about the uprisings of Phan Dinh Phung, Hoang Hoa Tham, and early independence proclamations.
  • Resistance Against the French (1945 - 1954): Exhibits documents, weapons, and images of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, highlighting campaign maps and homemade weapons used by the Vietnamese army.

The simulation system, with realistic screens and sound, gives visitors the feeling of piloting the aircraft during a battle.
  • Recreation of the Tank Breaking Down the Independence Palace Gate: An interactive space using 3D technology and virtual reality (VR) recreates the historic moment when the T-54B tank, serial number 843, broke through the gates of the Independence Palace on April 30, 1975, marking the victory of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign. Visitors can view this scene on a large screen or wear VR glasses to experience it as if they were at the scene.
