1. Where is Ba Den Mountain?

Ba Den Mountain is located in Thanh Tan commune, Tay Ninh City, about 11 km northeast of the city center. Also known by names such as Ba Dinh Mountain, Nui Mot, or Dien Ba Mountain, it is part of a cultural and historical relic complex of the same name. With an elevation of 986 meters above sea level, Ba Den Mountain is dubbed the “Roof of the Southeast” and affectionately called “The First Sacred Mountain” by visitors.

Today, the mountain has seen major developments, with numerous temples and impressive Buddhist architectural works constructed to allow visitors to worship and explore Buddhist teachings.

2. Best Time to Visit Ba Den Mountain

There are two ideal periods to travel to Ba Den Mountain:

 • Lunar January: This is when spring festivals take place in Tay Ninh, and Buddhists come to pray for peace and prosperity in the new year. Visiting during this time allows you to experience the festive atmosphere and join in the spiritual activities.
 • From November to May (next year): This dry season offers the best conditions for hiking and exploring outdoor attractions around the mountain, with cooler temperatures, less rain, and dry, safe trails.

3. Transportation to Ba Den Mountain

Ba Den Mountain is about 110 km from Ho Chi Minh City. You can travel from downtown Saigon by motorbike, bus, or rental car.

3.1 Motorbike or Car

 • Route 1: Follow National Highway 22A, then turn right at Trang Bang Junction onto Provincial Road 782. Travel another 62 km to reach Ba Den Mountain.
 • Route 2: Still follow Highway 22A, but turn left at Trang Bang Junction into Go Dau Town. Continue along Highway 22B for about 62 km to arrive.

3.2 Bus

Travel time by bus is about 3 hours, and the cost is around 60,000 VND for two rides.

 • Option 1: Take bus number 703 (Ben Thanh – Moc Bai route), then transfer to bus number 5 to Tay Ninh.
 • Option 2: Take one of the following buses to Cu Chi Bus Station: bus 13 (from Ben Thanh), bus 94 (from Cho Lon), or bus 74 (from An Suong). Then transfer to bus number 603 to reach Tay Ninh.

6.1 Temple Complex on the Mountain

Ba Den Mountain is a major spiritual site in Tay Ninh, home to numerous temples and religious structures, including:

 • Ba Den Pagoda (Linh Son Thien Thach Tu): The largest and oldest temple on the mountain, located at 350m elevation and over 300 years old. Linh Son Holy Mother is worshipped in a sacred cave about 5m² in size. The pagoda also honors Buddha Shakyamuni, Maitreya, Avalokitesvara, Arhats, and many other deities in the main hall.
 • Linh Son Phuoc Trung Pagoda (Middle Pagoda): Located at the mountain’s base near the station. It served as the venue for important resistance meetings against French colonialism in 1946. Outside stands a statue honoring the "Heroes of Ba Den Mountain," commemorating local militia sacrifices during wartime.
 • Other temples include Chua Hang, Quan Am Pagoda, and Linh Son Hoa Dong Pagoda, among others.

6.2 Explore the Mysterious Caves

As a renowned spiritual land, Ba Den Mountain is not only home to many temples but also features beautiful caves steeped in local folklore. These include the Three Ladies’ Cave, Thanh Long Cave, and Tiger Cave, among others.

6.3 Admire the Statue of Bodhisattva Tay Bo Da Son

Located at the summit of Ba Den Mountain, the Statue of Bodhisattva Tay Bo Da Son stands 72 meters tall and is cast from 170 tons of red copper. The statue rests on a four-tiered concentric pedestal, gazing into the distance as if offering blessings to the people. Inspired by Buddha statues from the Le Dynasty, artisans have added intricate details and symbolic motifs, setting it apart from statues in other countries. In the early morning, the statue is often surrounded by a mystical sea of clouds and mist, creating a heavenly atmosphere. Climbing the stairs on either side of the statue offers sweeping views of Tay Ninh’s lush landscape.

6.4 Visit the Impressive Buddhist Exhibition Center

From the plaza at the base of the statue, you can take an elevator or stairs to the Buddhist Exhibition Center, which spans over 4,410 m².

The center displays hundreds of Buddhist artifacts including bronze statues, paintings, and bas-reliefs. One highlight is the Prayer Wheel Room featuring sacred rotating drums.

Especially remarkable is the 3D Dome Projection Show on the formation of the universe according to Buddhist philosophy. Using world-class audio-visual technology, this immersive experience takes place in the grand hall on the first floor.

The center also houses precious Buddhist relics (sarira) displayed in a crystal stupa surrounded by water walls and Sanskrit murals. This sacred space invites pilgrims to connect deeply with Buddhist teachings.

6.5 Overnight Camping

Camping overnight, watching the sunrise, and cloud hunting in the early morning are popular choices among visitors to Ba Den Mountain. Essential items to bring include: a tent, sleeping bag, flashlight, first-aid kit, thermal mat, and personal essentials.

The best times for camping are during festivals, such as the Ba Mountain Spring Festival (early Lunar January) or the Linh Son Holy Mother Celebration (April 4–6 on the lunar calendar).

The best time to catch this phenomenon is between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, when the morning mist begins to clear.

After cloud hunting, make sure to check-in at the Ba Den Summit Marker. This marker notes the elevation of 986 meters, marking the "Roof of Southern Vietnam." It is located near a beautiful flower garden and a decorative windmill. The marker is made of solid materials and set atop a large stone base with safety railings around it.
