Taichung Airport was built during the Japanese occupation, originally called "Kōkan Airport." In 1955, it was renamed Ching Chuan Kang (CCK) and served the U.S. Air Force. In September 2003, the airport's infrastructure was completed and officially began operating commercial flights in May 2004.
