Built in 1944 by the Japanese military under the name Mushiroda Airport, it was renamed Itazuke Airport under U.S. management in 1945. In December 1970, the airport was officially returned to Japan. In April 1972, it was renamed Fukuoka Airport, a name it retains to this day. Originally with only one terminal, due to increasing passenger numbers, a second terminal was completed in 1974, the third in 1981, and the International Passenger Terminal in 1999, catering to the growing demand for international flights to Japan.

Note: The subway operates from 5:30 AM to 12:25 AM, with a train every 4 to 8 minutes.

If you have minimal luggage, the bus is the most suitable option. You can catch the bus at the international terminal's first-floor bus station. There are two main bus routes for you to choose from:

• Fukuoka Airport - Hakata Station: 260 JPY/one way (43,000 VND), travel time 18 minutes.
• Fukuoka Airport - Tenjin Station: 310 JPY/one way (52,000 VND), travel time 3 minutes.

Taxis are both fast and comfortable, especially if you're traveling with a group. You can catch a taxi at the domestic terminal and the 1F area of the international terminal.

Fukuoka Airport bustling on the northern coast of the beautiful Kyushu island.

From Fukuoka International Airport to Fukuoka Castle, it's approximately over 11 km. The castle is situated on a high stone platform overlooking the scenic Naka River. It hosts the nationally renowned Fukuoka Castle Sakura cherry blossom festival every April, featuring a spectacular display of over 1,000 cherry blossoms.

Sasaguri Kyudai Forest, part of Kyushu University, is about 17 km from Fukuoka Airport. Covering 17 hectares, it is dedicated to the research and conservation of plants, including a rare and precious redwood species called metasequoia, growing beside a pond. The saltwater marsh area with its ethereal beauty is an inspiration for Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke.

Although Miyaji Dake Shrine is more than 35 km from the airport, it's a must-visit in Fukuoka. Located on a hill in Fukutsu town, the shrine possesses Japan's Three Treasures, including the largest shimenawa sacred rope weighing 3 tons and measuring 11 meters, the largest taiko drum in Japan with a diameter of 2 meters, and the largest bronze bell in Japan weighing 450 kg. Miyaji Dake Shrine is also known for its breathtaking sunset views.
