Quang Ninh Museum was established in 1960 under the name "Hong Quang History and Revolution Museum." After the Hong Quang area merged with Hai Ninh Province to form Quang Ninh Province in 1963, the museum officially changed its name to "Quang Ninh Provincial Museum."
