Floating Market
Can Tho River, Cai Rang Ward, Can Tho City, Vietnam.
Always openOverview
The floating market is a distinctive cultural feature of the Mekong Delta, reflecting the close-knit lifestyle of the residents with the waterways. Formed out of the need for trade when road transportation was still limited, the floating market is where boats gather on the river to buy and sell agricultural products, fruits, and essential goods. A unique feature of the floating market is the "bẹo tree" – a bamboo pole displaying products – which helps buyers easily identify goods from a distance. The market usually operates from early morning, creating a bustling and lively scene on the water. Today, the floating market is not only a trading place but also an attractive destination for tourists wanting to experience the river culture of the Mekong region.
