Vietjet joins program to assist students arriving in Ho Chi Minh City for University Entrance Exams

(Ho Chi Minh City, 28 July, 2014) – The private carrier Vietjet has received a certificate of merit for its role in the University Entrance Exam Supporter 2014 program—an initiative run by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union to assist the huge volume of students arriving in Vietnam’s largest city to sit entrance exams for third-level institutions.

More than 18,000 student volunteers from Ho Chi Minh City were divided into 500 groups to provide candidates arriving at schools, bus stations, train stations and ports with essential information and directions.

As a result, this far-reaching program benefited candidates and parents on 180,165 occasions. The task force introduced 37,725 people to rooms for rent and provided 5,408 people with free board. The volunteers also distributed 200,000 leaflets and 380,000 maps of the city and bus routes as well as 60,000 free bus tickets and 35,000 vouchers for free meals and 25,000 vouchers for free bread.

Vietjet pitched in by offering candidates 10,000 caps, 10,000 t-shirts, and many other gifts worth a total value of VND1 billion. Vietjet’s top management and staff also appeared at stations and schools to encourage volunteers to assist candidates to the best of their ability.

“Vietjet is extremely proud to assist the University Entrance Exam Supporter program which is such a meaningful initiative for the community. Students are the future of this amazing country and we are delighted that we can be of assistance to them,” said Desmond Lin – Business Development Manager of Vietjet. “This program is also an extremely worthwhile activity for volunteers. Participating students learn the importance of team work, cooperation and sharing responsibilities amongst a group. I saw first-hand how volunteers provided invaluable assistance to university candidates and their accompanying parents, many of whom had never been to Ho Chi Minh City before and are understandably daunted at the prospect of getting from A to B.”

Previously Vietjet has participated in many other Corporate Social Responsibility programs aimed at providing assistance to Vietnamese students. Earlier this year, the airline teamed up with PepsiCo to help fly students home for the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday by providing free air tickets so students could enjoy the holiday with their families. As an added bonus, the students were amongst the first passengers in the country to ever fly on an A320 jet with Sharklet wingtips, a revolutionary fuel-saving design created by Airbus. Vietjet and PepsiCo are eager to join forces on a similar initiative during Tet next year.

Vietjet has also previously joined forces with 1,000 Youth Union members and students from Hanoi to launch a project aimed at improving Vietnamese people’s physical condition.
